Dad and Mom on their wedding day.

Dad writing a letter to Mom while in Korea. No email, video conferencing, or phones. Mom said that mail often took a month to arrive.

My grandfather (Dad's dad) holding my older brother, Loyd (their only child at the time) and Dad's picture in 1951.

Mom and Dad - 4oth Anniversary
Dad passed on into heaven in November, 2006. We love and miss him very much.
Mom and Dad had just celebrated their 59th anniversary that September.
What a blessing to have them as our parents...

I hope you have a wonderful weekend:)

Show and Tell Friday - Soup Tureen

Show and Tell Kelli @ There's No Place Like Home is hosting Show and Tell Friday. Don't miss seeing Kelli's hand embroidered flour sack towels! And be sure to check out all of the other treasures of those participating this week!

Today I am showing this soup tureen that I picked up at GW several years ago. I like it's simple white color along with the ribbed design on the tureen, lid and platter. I don't remember how much I paid for it, but probably not more than five dollars.

There are no markings to identify its origin.
From above, you can see its octagon shape.

I went online to see if I could find a similar tureen to compare mine to. I was amazed at the variety in design and PRICE!

You can find beautiful tureens in design and color...

Or you can enjoy your soup on game day while cheering on your favorite team!

But I'm happy with my simple white one that goes with everything:)

Show and Tell Kelli @ There's No Place Like Home is hosting Show and Tell Friday. Don't miss seeing Kelli's sweet garden furniture for people and fairies!:) And be sure to check out all of the other treasures of those participating this week!

Due to some "technical" problems with my usual computer, my show and tell post today will be a rerun of some pictures. This time I would like to showcase the dishes that are displayed on our hutch. These are not close ups, but I am hoping you'll be able to click on the picture and see the pattern better.

These dishes are on display in my kitchen every day on the hutch. I have to admit, that we rarely use them. Since they compliment the wallpaper border with fruit, I have used them decoratively.

On Easter, I decided to use them because of their Spring colors and in doing so realized how much I enjoy using them. I'm sorry that I didn't get a picture of our Easter tablescape for you to see. In your mind's eye, see a cream color tablecloth with six place settings, including the stemware pictured here. The cloth napkins that I made in November and Grandmother Viola's silverware (in 3rd photo). For a centerpiece, I placed a two layered white cake with white icing and sprinkles on a glass pedestal cake plate, topped with a darling ceramic tiny bunny popping out of a purple egg. I know... we can't figure out what a bunny is doing coming out of an egg either, but that's our Easter dessert decoration every year -the bunny cake:)

I found these at Dollar Tree several years ago. I love that place:)

When my local store didn't have all of the pieces that I wanted, a quick call to my sister put her on the move to find them in her town. And find them she did! Enough for settings for 12--with extra cups:)

So as I told my family, as we enjoyed our Sunday Easter dinner, I think that I will be pulling these down to use them more often. To look at them just makes me happy:) And that's what it's all about, right?:)

Show and Tell Friday- Treasure from Grandma

Show and Tell Kelli @ There's No Place Like Home is hosting Show and Tell Friday. Don't miss seeing Kelli's special childhood jewelry and all of the other treasures of those participating this week!

In our curio cabinet among all the other pretty trinkets and glassware sits a little ceramic bird. It doesn't have any monetary value, yet it is priceless to me. This small bird and a jewelry box are treasures from my grandma- my mother's mom after she passed away in 1983.

Grandma was a quiet woman who stood about 4'10". As children, we were thrilled to see how we grew and were soon taller than Grandma. We were actually taller that an adult at a fairly young age. We thought that was cool! She would just smile with us.

I remember fun times playing with cousins after a wonderful meal on Sunday afternoons at her house --or my Aunt Mary's house where she lived before she bought a small home of her own.
...Being chased by bumblebees during a game of hide-and-seek --and the time a cousin was "clothes-lined" (running into a too low clothesline about neck height) - he was fine:)

My grandfather died when I was about 3 years old. So she was a widow for many years of her life.
Grandma came and stayed at our house several times, when my mom was in the hospital, following the birth of a sibling. I remember her as being very kind and gentle.

I don't feel like I really knew Grandma very well, because she was so quiet. But I am thankful for her loving ways and gentle spirit that my mom learned from her, and modeled for our family as we were growing up. I am also thankful for the Christian heritage that she raised her children with. They were a Christian family and those values have reached into new generations to enrich our lives.
Her name was Daisy Dee. My Mom passed this sweet bird on to me following Grandma's death, as a remembrance of her.

Show and Tell Friday - Teacup Winner!

Show and Tell Kelli @ There's No Place Like Home is hosting Show and Tell Friday. Don't miss seeing Kelli's pretty new pillow and all of the other treasures of the ladies participating this week!

Look what arrived at my door this week! My very first time being picked as a winner from a blog giveaway:) This treasure came from Jan and Tom over at Rose Haven. Make sure that you stop in and see their beautiful blog.
I just love the yellow rose design!
Imagine my delight when I found this special gal tucked in the box, as a surprise, with my teacup! A sweet angel dressed in style with her skirt made from a doily. How creative!
Well, we all know that angels have to fly- so I had to find a place for her to hover:)
So she is watching over my kitchen from the hutch! Thank you Jan and Tom for these sweet gifts.

I have four teacups and saucers now. Could that be the start of a collection?...hmmmm...:)

Show and Tell Friday - Heirloom Picture

Show and Tell I am joining in on Kelli's Show and Tell Friday.

The last time I posted a show and tell, I shared this antique pitcher and bowl that came from my husband's grandmother, and you got a peek of the picture behind it.

This picture was handed down to us after my father-in-law's passing and it originally came from my husband's grandmother's home.

This picture hung in the living room of Grandmother, and my father-in-law later had it in the breakfast nook of his kitchen.

It is an early American scene of a loving mother, teaching her little daughters to clean and shine the copper items in their home. I wonder what their conversation was as they worked together and the girls each did her part to help. I don't know which darling daughter is my favorite. Each one sits so sweetly on her little chair- and is so intent in her work:)

I have some copper accent pieces around my kitchen that go along with the theme of this picture. Here are some chafing pans on top of the hutch near the picture.

Two tea kettles and a copper bowl decorate the top of the refrigerator. One of these tea kettles was found at Good Will and its handle matches the other white and blue porcelain handle perfectly.

And if your stop by for cup of tea, this is the tea kettle that I will heat the water in:)

I have to say that I do not shine my copper pieces very often. But if I could pull up a chair into this circle and and meet these little ladies, I would happily join in on the chores with them.

Be sure to visit Kelli's blog to see what lovelies she is showing today. And check all the other treasures being shown by the ladies who are participating in today's show and tell.
Who knows? You just might find a new blogging friend today:)
