1952 Woman's Day Magazine #1- Show & Tell Friday

Show and Tell Kelli is the gracious host of Show and Tell Friday at There's no Place Like Home. Visit her site for more.

The Front Cover --notice the price!

Last Christmas I was given a very unique and unexpected gift from our friend Lisa's parents, just because they thought that I would enjoy it. Mr. B has a collection of vintage magazines. I have never had the opportunity to meet Mr. & Mrs. B, but I thank them for this treasure. What a generous gift! This Woman's Day, is dated August 1952.
This is the first in a short series of pages I will show for this week and next.

The image that women's cleaning attire included heels and pearls. The "June Cleaver" image.

Sorry this one is so blurry--can you see what she's cleaning?

The fashion was very sharp-looking then--with the help of starch in the laundry. And yes, no permanent press yet--ironing was it!

Ideas for being frugal and making Christmas gifts- just like today:)

And giving haircuts at home.

Here is an advertisement that you don't see today. Full page ad.

More advertisements.

The fashion for the campus, office and home.

Thanks for stopping by. I hope you enjoyed this walk into the past today. Next week I will share some featured articles, and more help for the homemaker of 1952.

Did you ever notice that in one of the first few pages of every issue of Woman's Day there is a scripture verse? Here is the verse found in this 56 year old issue:

"Keep thy tongue from evil, and thy lips from speaking guile. Depart from evil, and do good; seek peace, and pursue it." Psalm 34:13,14

Now there's something that never goes out of style:) Have a great weekend!

What an amazing gift!!!! [In 1952, I was 3!]

Stop by my show and tell when you have time, I'd love to have you visit with me this fine day. Happy weekend to you!!!

Hey, I could use the tips for the first haircut. I've only trimmed a stray hair here or there on Alli and am scared to death to actually give her a haircut!

I like the water dripping off the girl's nose on the cover. It kinda looks like snot. These days they would photoshop that out!

BTW - you are on my blogroll now. And on the top, no less! ;)

Those images are wonderful.

Any one of them would make super wall art if scanned, printed and framed.

Thanks for sharing from another era, and for visiting my blog today :)

Great verse! I noticed that one woman's waist was super small. Thanks for the vintage show and tell.

Makes me feel old. LOL I am old. I was a sophomore in high school in 1952. I found the ad for Chesterfield cigarettes interesting because my favorite aunt smoked Chesterfields like they were going out of style. Of course they eventually did but not in her lifetime.

I always dress like that when I clean the toilet, don't you???? LOL!!! What a treasure, makes me wish I'd saved some of my old magazines.

Hi There...Love the vintage magazine! I am a vintage girl myself...By the way, I am from Massachusetts and we had an A&P Grocery Store near us...I am sure we would have had the tea too, seeing as where MOM would have saved so much $$$...:)

Lovely post - I enjoyed it tremendously.

Linda, thanks for visiting my blog :). I love your squirrel shots. Especially the ones of the squirrel climbing/eating its way right inside the pumpkin! How cute! And it's great that you caught the shots :). Awesome! I am looking forward to the Show and Tells. I really enjoyed looking at the magazine pages you posted. They remind me of playing at my grandmother's house and looking through her books :). God bless and have a great week.

I don't care for ironing, but I kind of like the style of the campus outfit. I wouldn't pick orange for it...

I like the cover picture, too.

Nice of you to visit my blog! Am always happy when people drop by and leave a hello. Enjoyed the pictures of the magazine. I once found a bunch of magazines at a friend's house from the 70's and they were so much to go through! Enjoy your day!

This was so fun to look at! I have been on a real 1950's kick lately so I really enjoyed this. Thanks for sharing this!

Mary said...

Wow! That was GREAT! I LOVED it! It is a little before my time, as I was born in 1953. I wish my mother-in-law had kept all of her old magazines.

Glad you like my posts. Scroll way down (hit older posts) to start at #1. I decided to start writing the posts because I noticed all of the blog spots dedicated to 1950's housewives. I think it is great that the young ladies are aspiring to this. No, things were not perfect then (the more I write the posts, the more I realize that) but over all, I think things were better in many ways. I remember those times well, as I was blessed with an excellent memory!

I will have to read your blog now. Have a nice day! Mary.

Mary said...

Gattina, went to your site, saw the picture of how David blew up like a tick after visiting America, and I am dying laughing. Couldn't find out how to leave a comment on your site, so I am leaving it here! Have a nice day.

Mary said...

Linda, yes, I remember when people used to starch their clothes (and use bluing and bleach in the wash for whites). Then we had spray starch, and then it seemed like people quit ironing their clothes altogether.

This is awsome. My mom has had a subscription to Woman's day since before I was born. I always remember flipping through it and still do.
