"Honey, can you come and open this for me?" How many times have you had call for help because that lid just would not budge? --Or worse, no one is there to help you.
I came across a tip a while back that has really helped me. You know those lids that are too tight to get off, so you bang them on the counter trying to get them to loosen. Sometimes that works- if you don't break the jar first!
I am talking about jars that pickles or applesauce come in. There is a simple way to open these.
All you have to do is break the vacuum seal by lifting the lid just a bit, and the lid will open easily.
Use a bottle opener ...
to gently lift the lid just a little.
You will usually hear a release of air and then the lid will twist right off!

That is a good tip. I had forgottne about that. I just have gotten spoiled with having my husband open the jars:)
Good idea - I haven't thought to try that! We have a rubber grippy spot thing that we use to grip the lid as we turn, and it really helps, too.
That is a great tip, Linda! I usually just hit the edge with a knife, but this looks better. :0)

A great tip.
Great tip I am always struggling with jars. Thankyou.
I learned that trick a few years ago from my hubby, who tired of opening jars for me the old-fashioned way.
This is a far better method than me trying to jam the tip of a butter knife in between the lip of the jar and lid *L* Thanks for the tip!
Now that's a trick that might come in handy. I can't tell you how many lids I cant' get open.
